Why Modern Yeoman?

Before Modern Yeoman was a business, it was a title. In the U.S. Navy, a Yeoman is the administrative backbone of a command: the one who keeps records straight, communications clear, and operations running behind the scenes. After 12 years of service, that's exactly who Diana became.

After her military career, Diana carried that same precision into the corporate world, building experience across banking, executive administration, and HR coordination before founding Modern Yeoman. With over 20 years of professional experience, she knows what it takes to keep a business moving, and what it costs when the backend falls behind.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management with a concentration in Human Resources from the University of Redlands, giving her both the practical skills and the organizational framework to support growing businesses at every stage.

Outside of work, Diana recharges the same way she operates: with intention. Whether she's cooking a new dish, getting a workout in, or being present with her husband and two sons, she believes a full life makes for a better professional.

A Yeoman is the trusted administrative hand who keeps leadership moving. In the U.S. Navy, Yeomen handle records, correspondence, personnel files, and operational paperwork. Diana served as a Yeoman for 12 years, and Modern Yeoman carries that standard into business support: disciplined admin work, handled quietly and correctly.
What does "fractional" mean?
Fractional means my time and focus are dedicated to your business for a fraction of a full workday, structured around your retainer tier. Instead of hiring a full-time administrative employee who works 40 hours a week, you get a set number of dedicated hours each month applied directly to your highest-priority needs. The expertise and commitment of a dedicated executive assistant, scaled to exactly what your business requires.
Can you be my personal assistant?
That's a different job, and the distinction matters. A personal assistant manages an individual's personal life: appointments, errands, household coordination, and similar tasks. I'm an executive administrative assistant, which means I support the business itself. Inbox management, CRM maintenance, vendor coordination, invoice processing, and client communications all land on my desk so they stay off yours. If you're looking for business administrative support, I'm your person. If you need help with your personal life, a specialist in that work will serve you better.
How is Modern Yeoman different from a virtual assistant?
Most virtual assistants execute the tasks you assign, and that's where it ends. Modern Yeoman operates at an executive level: with 20+ years of C-suite support and a corporate executive assistant background, I anticipate needs, flag problems early, and make judgment calls that align with your business priorities. It's the difference between a dispatcher and a co-pilot.
What does a typical retainer engagement look like?
Most clients start with the Essential (10 hrs/month) or Growth (15 hrs/month) retainer. We begin with a discovery call to understand your business, pain points, and priorities. From there I develop a working rhythm that fits your operation. The Premium tier (25 hrs/month) is ideal for businesses that want priority response and the full suite of services.
Do you offer project-based or one-off support?
Yes. A-La Carte / Project-Based support is available for non-retainer clients who need one-off or specialized support. There is a 2-hour minimum per engagement, billed in 30-minute increments thereafter. Existing retainer clients who need additional hours beyond their plan receive a preferred overage rate. Custom packages are also available upon request.
How does A-La Carte / ad hoc pricing work?
A-La Carte engagements are billed hourly with a 2-hour minimum per engagement. After the initial 2 hours, time is billed in 30-minute increments, so you're never paying for unused fractions of an hour. This structure is designed for clients who need occasional or specialized support without committing to a monthly retainer. Pricing is available upon request. If your needs are recurring and predictable, a retainer is almost always the more cost-effective path. Reach out and we can talk through what makes sense for your situation.
What's the difference between A-La Carte and retainer overage support?
The A-La Carte option is for non-retainer clients who need project-based or one-off support. It carries a 2-hour minimum per engagement, billed in 30-minute increments thereafter. The overage option is a preferred rate exclusively for existing retainer clients who exceed their monthly hours, and is one of the benefits of a retainer partnership. Reach out for a full pricing conversation.
How quickly can you get started?
Generally within one to two weeks of our initial consultation. Onboarding is lightweight. I'll ask for access to the tools and accounts I need, and we'll do a working session to align on priorities. From there, I'm operational and ready to go.
What tools do you work with?
I'm tool-agnostic and work within your existing stack. Common tools include: Email: Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail · Calendar: Google Calendar, Outlook, Calendly · Project Management: Asana, Trello, Monday.com, ClickUp · Communication: Slack, Microsoft Teams, Zoom · Invoicing: QuickBooks, FreshBooks, Wave, HoneyBook · File Management: Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive. If you use something different, I adapt quickly.
Is there a long-term commitment?
No. Retainer engagements are month-to-month, and the work earns the renewal. Project-based engagements are scoped individually with clear deliverables and timelines.
What does onboarding look like?
Getting started is straightforward. First, we schedule a discovery call to assess your needs and make sure we're a good fit. If we move forward, I'll send a proposal and service agreement. From there, you'll complete a short onboarding intake form and grant me access to the tools I'll be working in. Within the first 30 days we do a check-in to review the workflow and make any adjustments. From there we settle into a rhythm, with monthly reviews to keep things running smoothly.
How do you handle confidentiality?
All engagements include a mutual NDA. With a background supporting C-suite executives, I handle sensitive business information with the same discretion and professionalism expected at the highest levels of leadership. Confidentiality is non-negotiable.
